TEHRAN – A remote structure, which was once a summer royal residence in the Alborz mountain range, northwest of the Iranian capital Tehran, has undergone some rehabilitation works, a local tourism official has said.

The structure, which is temporarily ceded to the private sector, is planned to be turned into an accommodation center after being fully restored, CHTN quoted Fereydun Mohammadi as saying.

However, to make the most of this historical building, tourism infrastructure needs to be improved in the area, the official added.

It is expected that this complex will be put in operation within a year if the infrastructure is provided, he noted.

The structure, which can hardly be called a palace now, was once a shelter for Qajar monarchs and companions who went hunting in the surrounding foothills.

The monument is located in Shahrestanak, a picturesque village in the Asara district of Alborz province, situated some 90 km from Tehran.

Alborz province is surrounded by Mazandaran, Tehran, Markazi, and Qazvin provinces. Its name is driven by the Alborz Mountains. A significant part of the mountains is located in the northern part of the province.

Historical resources and documents, as well as archeological studies, indicate that Alborz has a rich culture dating back to prehistoric times.
